Chemical Peels: Revitalize Your Skin

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure that uses a solution of acids to remove the outermost layers of the skin. This treatment promotes the growth of new, smoother and healthier skin. Chemical peels can address various skin concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

During the procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. The type and strength of the solution depend on the desired depth of the peel and the skin concerns being treated. The solution works by exfoliating the damaged outer layers of skin, which eventually peel away, revealing fresh, regenerated skin beneath.

Types of Chemical Peels:

  1. Light Peels: These use milder acids like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) to gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin. They are ideal for improving texture, tone, and mild acne.
  2. Medium Peels: These peels penetrate deeper using acids like trichloroacetic acid (TCA). They are effective for treating moderate wrinkles, acne scars and pigmentation issues.
  3. Deep Peels: These use stronger acids, such as phenol, to deeply penetrate the skin. They are used for more severe skin issues like deep wrinkles, significant sun damage and pronounced scars.

Benefits of Chemical Peels:

  • Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Smooths rough skin and evens out skin tone.
  • Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Promotes collagen production for a more youthful appearance.
  • Treats Acne and Acne Scars: Helps clear up acne and reduce the appearance of scars.
  • Diminishes Hyperpigmentation: Lightens dark spots and sun damage.
  • Enhances Skin Radiance: Gives skin a healthy, refreshed glow.

What to Expect During and After a Chemical Peel:

  • During the Procedure: The skin is cleansed and the chemical solution is applied. You may feel a mild tingling or burning sensation. The treatment duration varies depending on the type of peel.
  • After the Procedure: The skin may appear red and feel sensitive. Peeling and flaking typically occur as the skin heals. Post-procedure care includes gentle cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection to aid in the healing process and protect the new skin.
